5 and 6 year old players should know the following skills:
Throwing a Baseball
- Holding a baseball properly to make a throw.
- Throwing a baseball. Front shoulder points toward the target.
- Step toward the target and throw.
- Proper throwing mechanics.

Batting/Running the bases
- How to swing a bat, left handed or right handed.
- Teach the kids how runs can be scored.
- Teach the basics of base running. Running through the base and rounding the base.
Fielding
- Ready positions.
- Fielding a ground ball.
- Catching the ball in front of the body.
- Teach the basics of catching a fly ball.
- Using your other hand to cover the ball in the glove when caught.
- All players must understand how to get outs. (Force outs, Tag Outs.)
- Kids should know every position at this age. They should know where to go when the ball is hit.
